This Haunted Island Uses Dismembered Dolls To Ward Off Spirits

Located in the canals of Xochimilco, two hours south of Mexico City lies Doll Island. Dubbed this due to the creepy dolls that adorn trees and buildings, the tradition was first started by Julian Santana.
Santana is said to have died a similar death to that of a young tourist girl, who died outside his property.

His great nephew, Rogelio Sanchez Santana, now continues this tradition. Speaking with Great Big Story, said:
“Her spirit came to scare him and bring sadness, and so to chase her away he brought these dolls that he found in the canals and the trash.
“They were to protect him”.
The dolls are located is various places, some hanging from clothes lines, some are within the plants grown by Julian himself and some are just lying on the ground

Locals believe the spirits that now haunt the island actually belong to either the young girl, Julian or even the creepy dolls. Rogelio claims that spirits have actually appeared to him, but despite living even he doesn’t understand what’s going on.
