Akinyemi Ogidan-The day the gods quarrelled

The Day the gods quarreled
Charade at the river bank
Clouds gathered in non-gait
I could not fathom.
“The gods are here. They are within me!”
Thus he said, loud and indefinite
And shudder I should not, but shivers
Shallow through without consent from mine.
Oh! Lord of Hosts
What a feeling
I am drown into the fold of his charade
As “shaworo” clatted around ankles of his
So strong, so musical.
He limped
Limping
Limp in jostle gaiety.
No smile, no happiness
As invocation of yonder beings are filled to his
Quivering mouth…
…almost tattered, yet, smoke exhumed from three stones
They groaned and moaned under the immensity of
lovely heats
Oozing out in stark obedience.
Panegyrics filled the ‘tmosphere
Oh! God I could let a hearing of enjambment of
incantations.
Clouds gathered in non-gait
I could not fathom
In this side of the river, my hook, my line
Follow me or I leave you behind.
For the hut shall be my refuge come tonight.
“Eri wo ya, Eri wo ya!”
Bum! Bum! Bum!
I am in haste and light I was as a gazelle
Hook in hand
Line journeyed astray, and my Jerusalem stood still
Not night, not morning dawn, but
A forenoon!
A forenoon!
Oh lord of host,
What have I seen, this is abomination
Bum! Bum!
It came thundering like a war insignia, the one I desire
not
For Balogun had hung
He is dangling
Hanged upon the tapestry of adulterous milieu
Magun!
Who shall save the village?
But I cursed loud to myself
When dew of reality drawn upon me as white
Garment personas illusions come
And rites salient to the course of the moment performed
In intricate feisty.
Aroma of burning Pisces filled the ‘tmosphere, and
The agonizing wails of suffering “chicks” begged
When struggled yield not in the grim hands of salient
ones.
And the cloud gathered in non-gait
I could not fathom.
Mustered I am in brand courage
For hut must be reached by nightfall.
Koso had struck
Pandemonium at the market square
I am heaving
I am panting for miles being ran by, swiftly
Like the Salaises.
In the midst of confusion I found my unable self
And I looked up
Nothing, nothing but dark cloud.
Koso has struck
And the people ran helter-out-of-skelter.
It was loud and deafening
And on the ground I found my knees.
The power suppressive and oppressive
Not on this terrain will I stoop.
Koso has struck and market square turned desert of
nothingness.
My heart thundered and I was alone.
I struggled
I mustered courage
But the power did not love me
The hate was put asunder by my chant-action
Oh! Lord of Hosts
I ran
Running
I run like an Elephant.
Clouds gathered in non-gait
I could not fathom
Yet my hut shall be my refuge.
gods are dropping
Rebellion! Rebellion!
I heard the man I saw by the river bank.
He ran past me and stumbled.
Head into the carcasses of dead gods.
I exclaimed and went light,
Right there, yes rightly in my naked vision.
Ancient trees fell in awesome thuds and lo!
Right in my naked sense Titans emerged and they
brandished
Destructive instincts like Martians
And my heart quaked for never before this vision has
come
In the midst of us.
What a war!
What a war!
Oh! Lord of Hosts
Koso has struck
As rubies of sparkles spontaneously lit the environ
And the world of us lit in gold
And heat surrounded me in awkward seduction.
The world of us vanished
My hut, my refuge fizzled into journey of nothingness.
Perplexed I stood, naked and awed.
Koso has struck
The cloud has torn apart and now
I could fathom
The day the gods quarreled…
